태초의 흙의 혼돈은 왜 발생하였는지는 모른다. 공허하게 되었는지, 흑암에 묻혀있었는지 모른다. 다만 1장1절과 1장 2절의 차이는 엄청난 비밀이 존재하는 것은 분명하고 본다. 태초의 창조는 혼돈 과 공허와 흑암 속에 있는 흙을 그 물에서 건져 내는 작업이라고 본다. 그 흙으로 마침내 인간을 만드시는 것이다.

그것이 창조의 크라이막스이다. 흙을 높여 하나님의 형상을 따라 인간이라고 하는 존재를 만드신 것이다. 이는 하나님의 짝된 자라고 하는 의미의 창조라고 하는 것의 내용을 보이고 있다고 본다. 인간이 하나님의 창조를 입고 마침내 창조된 존재이면서도 하나님의 짝이 된다고 하는 인간 창조의 개념이 드러나게 된다.

인간을 이렇게 높이시는 것이 하나님이시다. 흙에서 나온 인간을 높이시는 하나님은 그 최초의 절망을 스런 환경을 보고 계셨다. 마침내 그 흙을 구원하시기로 작심하신 이면을 밝혀주는 것이다. 흙은 어둠에 묻혀 있었고 공허하였고 혼돈에 있게 된 것이다. 이런 상태는 아무런 생명이 발생할 수 없는 조건을 의미한다.

이런 최악의 조건 속에 있는 흙을 살려내시는 작업을 하시게 된다. 그 순서의 내요이 정해지고 어떻게 해서 인간을  지상에서 살게 하며 그들로 하나님의 짝으로 하나님과 동거동락이 가능할 수가 있는가를 생각하신 것이다. 그런 창조를 하신 것이 곧 하나님이시라고 하는 것이다. 이는 지극히 높으신 분의 낮아지심을 의미한다고 본다.

이 세상의 권력자들의 역사 창조는 그 권력으로 횡포를 부리는데 있는 것이 아니라는 것이다. 이 세상에서 나름대로 높은 자리에 앉아 계신 분들의 말이 말씀이 되게 하려면 하나님 처럼 스스로 낮아져서 아주 깊은 절망 속에 있는 흙의 소리를 듣고 그를 건져 내는 선택을 하는 것이라고 한다.
